INDICATION

NB Selenium 200mcg Tab is a trace mineral supplement used to prevent and correct selenium deficiency. Selenium supplementation is indicated in patients with Keshan disease, Kashin-Beck disease, thyroid dysfunction, immune deficiency, and as antioxidant support in patients at risk of oxidative stress-related diseases. It is also used as adjunctive support in cancer prevention research protocols.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Selenium is an essential trace element incorporated into over 25 selenoproteins, including glutathione peroxidases, thioredoxin reductases, and iodothyronine deiodinases. Glutathione peroxidases are key antioxidant enzymes that neutralize hydrogen peroxide and lipid peroxides, protecting cells from oxidative damage. Iodothyronine deiodinases convert thyroxine (T4) to the active thyroid hormone (T3), making selenium critical for normal thyroid function. Selenomethionine is the organic form with the highest bioavailability.

SIDE EFFECTS

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Selenium does not significantly interact with common medications via CYP450 pathways.
