INDICATION

Xenglu Met 12.5mg+850mg Tab is a fixed-dose combination SGLT2 inhibitor and biguanide indicated for type 2 diabetes mellitus. The 850mg metformin dose provides the standard twice-daily metformin exposure alongside empagliflozin's glucose-lowering, cardiovascular, and renal protective effects.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Same dual mechanism as Xenglu Met 12.5mg+500mg. The higher 850mg metformin dose provides more complete hepatic glucose output suppression and greater peripheral insulin sensitization, particularly suitable for patients already stabilized on 850mg metformin who require additional glycaemic control through the empagliflozin component's SGLT2 inhibition pathway.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Adults: 1 tablet twice daily with meals

•      Check eGFR before starting and monitor regularly

•      Swallow whole with water

•      Always follow the dosage prescribed by your doctor

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Genital mycotic infections

•      Urinary tract infections

•      Nausea and diarrhoea (higher with 850mg metformin)

•      Polyuria

Less common:

•      Diabetic ketoacidosis (euglycemic DKA)

•      Volume depletion and hypotension

•      Lactic acidosis (rare; risk in renal impairment)

•      Vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term metformin

Same as Xenglu Met 12.5mg+500mg. Diuretics: volume depletion risk. Contrast media: stop metformin before. Insulin and sulfonylureas: Hypoglycaemia risk. Alcohol: lactic acidosis risk.
