INDICATION

Vilget-M 50mg+850mg Tab is a dual oral antidiabetic combination indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults who require both incretin enhancement and robust metformin-based glucose lowering. This intermediate-strength formulation bridges the gap between the 500mg and 1000mg combinations, making it suitable for patients who have been escalated from the lower dose and need stronger glycemic control but have not yet reached the maximum metformin dose. It is used alongside diet and exercise to improve fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels and reduce HbA1c in patients inadequately managed on metformin monotherapy.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Vilget-M 50mg+850mg Tab combines vildagliptin and metformin for effective glycemic control. Vildagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, prolongs incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), enhancing glucose-dependent insulin release after meals and suppressing glucagon to reduce post-meal glucose spikes without causing hypoglycemia. Metformin lowers blood sugar by reducing hepatic glucose production and improving insulin sensitivity in muscle and fat. Together, they control both fasting and postprandial hyperglycemia while addressing insulin resistance.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Take one tablet twice daily with meals.

•      Take with morning and evening meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.

•      Swallow whole with a full glass of water; do not split, crush, or chew.

•      Maintain consistent meal timing for stable glycemic control.

SIDE EFFECTS

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Sulfonylureas and insulin combined with this product increase the risk of hypoglycemia and may require a dose reduction of the secretagogue. Corticosteroids, thiazide diuretics, and sympathomimetics can raise blood glucose, reducing the efficacy of antidiabetic treatment. Cationic drugs like cimetidine may increase metformin plasma levels by competing for renal tubular secretion.
