INDICATION
Paraxyl 20mg is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Paraxyl contains Paroxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It works by blocking the reabsorption of serotonin in the brain, which increases serotonin availability at the synaptic level. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
•     Adults: 20 mg once daily, typically in the morning, with or without food.
•     The dose may be increased by 10 mg at weekly intervals up to a maximum of 50 mg/day, as directed by a physician.
•     Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew.
•     Do not stop the medication abruptly — taper off under medical supervision.
SIDE EFFECTS
•     Nausea, dry mouth, constipation, or diarrhoea.
•     Drowsiness, dizziness, or insomnia.
•     Sweating, sexual dysfunction, or weight changes.
•     Rare but serious: suicidal ideation (especially in young adults), serotonin syndrome, or severe allergic reactions.
NOT RECOMMENDED IN
Contraindicated in patients taking MAO inhibitors (within 14 days), thioridazine, or pimozide. Not recommended in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures, bipolar disorder, renal or hepatic impairment, or pregnancy.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Paraxyl may interact with MAO inhibitors (risk of serotonin syndrome), anticoagulants such as warfarin (increased bleeding risk), triptans, tramadol, lithium, and other serotonergic drugs. It inhibits the CYP2D6 enzyme and may affect the metabolism of several other medications.
