OPT-D 1 LAC IU CAPSULE ONLINE AT BEST PRICE IN PAKISTAN
GENERIC: Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) 100,000 IU (1 Lac IU)
MANUFACTURER: Pharm Evo (Pvt) Ltd
QUANTITY:
Pack of 2 capsules
INDICATION
Opt-D 1 Lac IU Cap is a high-dose vitamin D3 supplement indicated for the treatment of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency, osteomalacia, rickets, and secondary hyperparathyroidism due to vitamin D deficiency. It is prescribed as a loading dose regimen to rapidly correct established vitamin D deficiency.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Cholecalciferol is the natural form of vitamin D3 synthesized in the skin under ultraviolet B light exposure. Following oral ingestion, it is hydroxylated in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D (calcidiol) and then in the kidney to the biologically active form, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol). Calcitriol acts on vitamin D receptors in the intestinal mucosa to enhance calcium and phosphorus absorption, promotes calcium mobilization from bone, and reduces renal calcium excretion, collectively maintaining calcium homeostasis, supporting bone mineralization, and modulating immune function.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
• Loading dose regimen: 1 capsule (100,000 IU) weekly or fortnightly as prescribed
• Duration and frequency determined by baseline serum 25-OH vitamin D levels
• Swallow whole with water; may be taken with or without food
• Always follow the prescribed dosing schedule; do not self-administer high doses without monitoring
SIDE EFFECTS
Common:
• Generally, well tolerated at prescribed therapeutic doses
• Mild nausea or stomach discomfort
• Headache
• Constipation
Less common:
• Hypercalcemia with excessive or prolonged high-dose use: thirst, frequent urination, weakness, confusion
• Kidney stones with prolonged hypercalcemia
• Hypercalciuria
• Raised serum calcium leading to cardiovascular effects at toxic doses
NOT RECOMMENDED IN
• Hypercalcemia or hypercalciuria
• Known hypersensitivity to cholecalciferol
• Severe renal impairment or nephrolithiasis
• Do not take alongside other vitamin D supplements without monitoring serum levels
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Thiazide diuretics combined with high-dose vitamin D increase the risk of hypercalcemia; monitor serum calcium. Orlistat, cholestyramine, and mineral oil reduce fat-soluble vitamin D absorption; take separately. Antiepileptics including phenytoin, carbamazepine, and phenobarbitone increase vitamin D catabolism, requiring higher supplementation doses. Vitamin D toxicity risk increases with concurrent use of other vitamin D preparations.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Store below 25°C in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep in original packaging. Keep out of reach of children.
