INDICATION

Modact-IR 100mg Tablets contain nimesulide, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with preferential COX-2 inhibition, indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute pain, painful osteoarthritis, and primary dysmenorrhea. It is prescribed for short-term management of moderate pain conditions including dental pain, post-operative pain, musculoskeletal pain, low back pain, and soft tissue injuries such as sprains and strains. MECHANISM OF ACTION

Nimesulide is a sulfonanilide NSAID that preferentially inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) over COX-1, reducing the production of prostaglandins involved in pain and inflammation while relatively sparing the prostaglandins that protect the gastric mucosa. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Concurrent use with other NSAIDs or aspirin increases gastrointestinal bleeding risk and should be avoided. Warfarin and other anticoagulants may have enhanced effects, requiring INR monitoring. Lithium and methotrexate clearance is reduced, increasing toxicity risk. ACE inhibitors and diuretics may have reduced efficacy and increased nephrotoxicity risk. Nimesulide may increase the hepatotoxic potential of other drugs metabolized through the liver. Concurrent use with corticosteroids increases ulceration risk. CYP2C9 inhibitors may increase nimesulide plasma levels.
