INDICATION

Methrix Lotion 60ML is a topical antiparasitic medication indicated for the treatment of head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis) infestation and scabies (Sarcoptes scabiei). It is used as a first-line treatment for both conditions in adults and children aged 2 months and older. Permethrin is also effective against pubic lice.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid that acts on the nerve cell membrane of parasites. It disrupts the sodium channel current, delaying repolarization and causing paralysis and death of the parasite. Permethrin is active against adult lice, larvae, eggs (nits), adult scabies mites, and their eggs. It has low mammalian toxicity due to rapid enzymatic metabolism in human tissues.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

·        For head lice: apply sufficient lotion to saturate hair and scalp after shampooing, leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly

·        For scabies: apply to clean, dry skin from the neck down to the soles of the feet, leave on for 8 to 12 hours (overnight), then wash off

·        A single application is usually sufficient; repeat after 7 to 14 days if live lice or mites persist

·        Use a fine-toothed nit comb to remove dead lice and nits after treatment

·        Treat all household contacts simultaneously to prevent reinfestation

·        Wash all bedding, clothing, and towels in hot water on the day of treatment

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

·        Mild temporary burning, stinging, or tingling at the application site

·        Transient itching of the scalp that may persist for a few days after treatment

·        Mild skin redness at the application site

Less common:

·        Numbness or tingling of the skin that persists beyond a few hours

·        Allergic skin reaction including rash, swelling, and erythema

·        Scalp irritation and temporary worsening of itching

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

·        Infants under 2 months of age

·        Known hypersensitivity to permethrin, pyrethroids, pyrethrin, or chrysanthemum flowers

·        Application on inflamed, broken, or severely scratched skin without medical guidance

·        Application near eyes, ears, nose, or mouth

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Permethrin is used topically and has negligible systemic absorption, resulting in no significant drug interactions. Avoid applying other topical products to the same area immediately before or after permethrin application, as they may reduce effectiveness.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
