MELONAX DROP 20ML
MELONAX DROP 20ML ONLINE AT BEST PRICE IN PAKISTAN
GENERIC: Meloxicam (Veterinary Oral Suspension)
MANUFACTURER: Intas Pharma
QUANTITY
20ml oral suspension
INDICATION
Melonex Drop 20ML is a veterinary non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indicated for the management of pain, inflammation, and fever in dogs and cats. In dogs, it is prescribed for the relief of inflammation and pain associated with musculoskeletal disorders including osteoarthritis, post-operative pain following orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, and acute locomotor disorders. In cats, it is used for the reduction of post-operative pain after ovariohysterectomy and minor soft tissue surgery, and for the management of acute musculoskeletal pain and inflammation.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Meloxicam is a preferential cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor that reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins, the primary mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever. By selectively targeting COX-2 over COX-1 at therapeutic doses, meloxicam provides effective anti-inflammatory and analgesic action while offering a relatively improved gastrointestinal safety margin compared to non-selective NSAIDs. In veterinary patients, this selectivity is important for maintaining the protective prostaglandins in the gastric mucosa and kidneys while controlling pain and inflammation at the site of injury or disease.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
· Dogs: initial dose of 0.2mg/kg body weight on the first day, followed by a maintenance dose of 0.1mg/kg once daily administered orally mixed with food
· Cats (acute use only): a single dose of 0.3mg/kg on the first day for post-operative pain; continued use in cats requires strict veterinary supervision due to their limited ability to metabolize NSAIDs
· Administer using the calibrated dropper or syringe provided for accurate weight-based dosing
· Mix with food or administer directly into the mouth
· Duration of treatment in dogs depends on clinical response; reassess regularly
· Do not exceed the recommended dose; cats are especially sensitive to NSAID toxicity
SIDE EFFECTS
Common:
· Vomiting and diarrhea, which are the most commonly reported adverse effects
· Reduced appetite or refusal to eat
· Lethargy and decreased activity
· Soft stools
Less common:
· Gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding, particularly at higher doses or with prolonged use
· Renal toxicity including increased thirst, increased urination, and renal failure in predisposed animals
· Hepatotoxicity presenting as jaundice, elevated liver enzymes, or liver failure
· Hematemesis (vomiting blood) or melena (dark tarry stools) indicating gastrointestinal hemorrhage
NOT RECOMMENDED IN
Animals with known hypersensitivity to meloxicam or other NSAIDs
Animals with active gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding
Animals with severe hepatic, renal, or cardiac insufficiency
Pregnant or lactating animals
Kittens under 6 weeks of age or puppies under 6 weeks of age
Concurrent use with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids
Dehydrated, hypovolemic, or hypotensive animals due to increased renal toxicity risk
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Concurrent use with other NSAIDs (including aspirin) or corticosteroids significantly increases the risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and renal damage and is contraindicated. Meloxicam may reduce the efficacy of diuretics and ACE inhibitors. Concurrent use with nephrotoxic drugs (aminoglycosides, amphotericin B) increases the risk of renal toxicity. Allow a washout period of at least 24 hours when switching between different NSAIDs. Highly protein-bound drugs may compete for binding sites, increasing free drug concentrations.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Store below 25 degrees Celsius. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep the bottle tightly closed after each use. Use within 6 months of first opening or as indicated on the label. Keep out of reach of children and animals when not in use.
