INDICATION
Loxiget Forte Eye Drop is a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone ophthalmic solution indicated for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis, keratitis, and corneal ulcers caused by susceptible gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. The 0.5% strength provides enhanced antibacterial potency for moderate to severe infections.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Gatifloxacin inhibits both DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair. Dual enzyme inhibition provides broader spectrum coverage and reduces the likelihood of resistance development compared to earlier fluoroquinolones. Gatifloxacin achieves high ocular tissue concentrations following topical application.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
● Day 1: instill 1 drop every 2 hours while awake, up to 8 times
● Days 2 to 7: instill 1 drop 2 to 4 times daily
● Continue for the full prescribed duration even if symptoms improve
● Do not touch dropper to any surface
SIDE EFFECTS
Common:
● Mild stinging or burning on instillation
● Temporary eye irritation
Less common:
● Conjunctival hyperemia
● Blurred vision temporarily
● Allergic reaction in rare cases
NOT RECOMMENDED IN
● Known hypersensitivity to gatifloxacin or other fluoroquinolones
