INDICATION

Lorin NSA 10mg Tab is a second-generation antihistamine used for the symptomatic relief of allergic rhinitis (hay fever), urticaria (hives), and other allergic conditions. It is a non-sedating antihistamine (NSA), making it suitable for patients who need to maintain daytime alertness during allergy treatment.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Loratadine is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist with minimal anticholinergic activity. It blocks histamine at peripheral H1 receptors, preventing the vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, and smooth muscle contraction that produce allergy symptoms such as nasal congestion, sneezing, watery eyes, and skin itching. Because loratadine does not significantly cross the blood-brain barrier, it causes little to no central sedation, distinguishing it from first-generation antihistamines.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Adults and children over 12 years: 10mg once daily

•      May be taken with or without food

•      For urticaria: continue until lesions resolve; for allergic rhinitis: take daily during allergy season

SIDE EFFECTS
