INDICATION

Lipitor 40mg is indicated for the reduction of elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is widely prescribed as part of a comprehensive cardiovascular risk reduction strategy in adults and children above 10 years. MECHANISM OF ACTION

By blocking this enzyme, atorvastatin reduces hepatic cholesterol production, which in turn upregulates LDL receptor expression on liver cells. DRUG INTERACTIONS

Fibrates, particularly gemfibrozil, combined with atorvastatin, increase the risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Cyclosporine and niacin can also elevate statin exposure. Antacids may reduce atorvastatin absorption when taken simultaneously.
