INDICATION

Linjardy 5/25mg is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus who require a higher dose of empagliflozin. The increased strength of empagliflozin (25mg) enhances urinary glucose excretion and leads to a greater reduction in fasting plasma glucose levels. MECHANISM OF ACTION

Linagliptin selectively inhibits DPP-4, enhancing the activity of endogenous incretins to stimulate insulin release in a glucose-dependent manner and suppress excess glucagon secretion. Empagliflozin 25mg provides a more pronounced SGLT2 inhibition, blocking a greater proportion of glucose reabsorption in the renal proximal tubules and promoting its excretion in urine. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      One tablet of 5/25mg once daily, preferably in the morning.

•      Can be taken with or without food.

•      Monitor renal function before and periodically during treatment.

•      Dose reduction or substitution may be required if eGFR falls below 45 mL/min/1.73m².

•      Not to be used in combination with other SGLT2 inhibitors or DPP-4 inhibitors.
