INDICATION
Lamcy 5ML Drop is a topical ophthalmic corticosteroid indicated for the treatment of steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the anterior segment of the eye. These include allergic conjunctivitis, vernal keratoconjunctivitis, episcleritis, iritis, cyclitis, and post-operative ocular inflammation following cataract surgery or other anterior segment procedures where bacterial infection is not the primary concern.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Fluorometholone is a synthetic glucocorticoid that exerts its anti-inflammatory effect by inducing lipocortin synthesis, which inhibits phospholipase A2. This blocks the release of arachidonic acid from cell membrane phospholipids, preventing the formation of inflammatory prostaglandins, thromboxanes, and leukotrienes. In the eye, this suppresses capillary dilation, inflammatory cell infiltration, edema, fibrin deposition, and collagen deposition. Fluorometholone has a relatively lower tendency to raise intraocular pressure compared to stronger ophthalmic steroids such as dexamethasone and prednisolone, making it a preferred choice for conditions requiring prolonged corticosteroid therapy.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
● Instill 1 to 2 drops into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye 2 to 4 times daily
● In severe inflammation, frequency may be increased to every 1 to 2 hours during the initial 24 to 48 hours, then tapered gradually as improvement occurs
● Shake the bottle well before each use as this is a suspension formulation
