INDICATION
Hivate 10GM Ointment is a potent topical corticosteroid indicated for relief of inflammatory and pruritic symptoms of corticosteroid-responsive skin conditions in adults and children aged 2 years and above. These include atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, allergic contact dermatitis, and chronic inflammatory dermatoses requiring a medium- to high-potency topical steroid.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Mometasone furoate binds to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors and modulates inflammatory gene transcription. It increases lipocortin synthesis, which inhibits phospholipase A2 and blocks the release of arachidonic acid. This suppresses prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and other inflammatory mediators responsible for redness, swelling, itching, and skin thickening.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
● Apply a thin layer to the affected area once daily
● Do not use on the face, groin, or armpits unless specifically prescribed
● Do not cover with occlusive dressings unless directed
● In children, limit treatment duration and avoid large body surface areas
● Wash hands after application unless treating the hands
● Maximum 2 to 3 weeks without physician review
SIDE EFFECTS
Common:
● Mild burning or stinging at application site
● Skin dryness
Less common:
● Skin thinning, atrophy, or stretch marks with prolonged use
● Perioral dermatitis if applied to the face
● Systemic corticosteroid effects with excessive application
