INDICATION

Hidrasec 30mg Sachet is an anti-secretory antidiarrheal for the symptomatic treatment of acute watery diarrhea in children aged 2 years and above weighing over 13kg. It reduces excessive intestinal water and electrolyte secretion while maintaining normal bowel motility, working alongside oral rehydration to restore fluid balance faster.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Racecadotril 30mg shares the same mechanism as the 10mg formulation. Its active metabolite thiorphan inhibits enkephalinase, preserving endogenous enkephalins that suppress cyclic AMP-mediated intestinal hypersecretion. The 30mg dose is calibrated for children above 13kg body weight. It targets only the pathological secretory component of diarrhea, not normal transit.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

●     Children above 2 years (over 13kg): 1 sachet three times daily

●     Give at the start of each of the three main meals

●     Mix granules with food or a small amount of water

●     Always use alongside oral rehydration solution

●     Continue until two normal stools are produced, maximum 7 days

●     Do not exceed the recommended dose or duration

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

●     Generally well tolerated

●     Mild headache or low-grade fever in rare cases

Less common:

●     Skin rash or allergic reactions in very rare cases

●     Angioedema reported extremely rarely

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

●     Known hypersensitivity to racecadotril or any ingredient

●     Chronic or antibiotic-associated diarrhea

●     Bloody or mucoid stools indicating invasive bacterial diarrhea

●     Children below minimum weight for this strength

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Same as Hidrasec 10mg. No clinically significant interactions. ACE inhibitors may theoretically increase angioedema risk.
