INDICATION

Hidrasec 100mg Cap is an antidiarrheal agent indicated for the treatment of acute secretory diarrhoea in adults and children. It is particularly effective in reducing excessive intestinal fluid secretion without slowing gut motility, making it a preferred option when preserving normal bowel function is important.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Racecadotril is an enkephalinase inhibitor that works peripherally in the gut. It inhibits the enzyme enkephalinase (neutral endopeptidase), which normally breaks down enkephalins in the intestinal mucosa. By blocking this enzyme, racecadotril increases the local concentration of enkephalins, which act on delta-opioid receptors in the gut to reduce hypersecretion of water and electrolytes into the intestinal lumen. Unlike loperamide, it does not affect gut motility, so it reduces fluid loss without causing constipation or prolonging transit time.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Adults: 100mg three times daily before meals

•      Duration: up to 7 days or until symptoms resolve

•      Do not exceed recommended dose or duration

•      Always follow the dosage recommended by your doctor
