INDICATION

HB Bizo-12 Vitamin B12 Tab is used to treat and prevent vitamin B12 deficiency, which can cause megaloblastic anemia, peripheral neuropathy, fatigue, memory impairment, and mood disturbances. It is particularly recommended for vegetarians, vegans, the elderly, and patients with malabsorption disorders or those on long-term metformin therapy.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) is an essential water-soluble vitamin required for DNA synthesis, red blood cell maturation, and myelin sheath formation around nerve fibers. It acts as a coenzyme in two key reactions: the conversion of methyl malonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA (important for neurological function) and the remethylation of homocysteine to methionine. Deficiency impairs these processes, leading to anemia and irreversible neurological damage if untreated.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Deficiency treatment: 1000mcg daily for 1 to 2 weeks, then 1000mcg weekly
