INDICATION

Formiget 200+6mcg Cap is an inhaled combination of a corticosteroid and a long-acting beta-2 agonist (LABA) for dry powder inhalation, used in the maintenance treatment of asthma and COPD in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and above who are not adequately controlled on inhaled corticosteroids alone.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Budesonide suppresses airway inflammation by binding to glucocorticoid receptors, reducing cytokine production, eosinophil recruitment, and airway hyperresponsiveness. Formoterol is a full agonist at beta-2 adrenoceptors, producing rapid and sustained bronchodilation lasting up to 12 hours. The combination provides both anti-inflammatory and bronchodilating effects, giving superior clinical outcomes compared to either agent alone.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Adults: 1 capsule inhaled twice daily via dry powder inhaler device

•      For inhalation only — do not swallow

•      Rinse mouth with water after each inhalation to prevent oral thrush

•      Use a short-acting reliever inhaler for breakthrough symptoms

•      Do not exceed the prescribed dose

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Oral thrush — prevented by mouth rinsing

•      Hoarseness, throat irritation

•      Headache, tremor, palpitations

Less common:

•      Adrenal suppression with prolonged high-dose use

•      Decreased bone mineral density

•      Hypokalaemia at high doses

•      Paradoxical bronchospasm

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

•      Acute asthma attacks

•      Known hypersensitivity to budesonide, formoterol, or lactose

•      Active pulmonary tuberculosis

•      Not for children under 12

DRUG INTERACTIONS

CYP3A4 inhibitors increase systemic budesonide exposure. Non-selective beta blockers antagonize formoterol. QT-prolonging drugs increase cardiovascular risk with formoterol.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

Store below 25°C. Protect from moisture and heat. Keep capsules in original blister and remove only immediately before use. Store out of reach of children.
