INDICATION

Ferrocite Cap (Large) is a comprehensive hematinic supplement containing iron, folic acid, and supporting vitamins used for the treatment and prevention of iron deficiency anemia, megaloblastic anemia due to folic acid deficiency, and mixed nutritional anemia. It is indicated during pregnancy, lactation, malnutrition, post-operative recovery, and in patients with chronic conditions associated with anemia.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Ferrous iron is absorbed in the duodenum and incorporated into hemoglobin for oxygen transport. Folic acid provides the folate coenzyme required for erythrocyte DNA synthesis and maturation. Additional vitamins in the formulation, including B12 and vitamin C, enhance iron absorption and support complete red blood cell production. Together, these nutrients address multiple potential causes of nutritional anemia.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Adults: 1 capsule once or twice daily with food

•      Pregnancy and lactation: 1 capsule once daily or as directed

•      Take with orange juice or vitamin C to enhance iron absorption

•      Avoid antacids, tea, coffee, and dairy around the time of dosing

•      Continue for at least 3 months after hemoglobin normalizes

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Nausea, constipation

•      Dark stools (expected)

•      Abdominal discomfort

•      Diarrhoea

Less common:

•      Gastric irritation

•      Hypersensitivity to any vitamin component

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Iron reduces absorption of tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, levothyroxine, and levodopa. Antacids reduce iron absorption. Vitamin C enhances absorption. High-dose folic acid can mask B12 deficiency.
