INDICATION

Fegent 120ML Syrup is a nutritional supplement indicated for the prevention and treatment of iron deficiency anemia, nutritional deficiency states, fatigue due to low iron or vitamin levels, and increased iron and vitamin requirements during pregnancy, lactation, childhood growth, and recovery from illness.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Fegent provides ferrous iron in a bioavailable form that is absorbed in the duodenum and proximal jejunum via divalent metal transporter-1 (DMT-1). Iron is essential for hemoglobin synthesis, myoglobin production, and cytochrome-mediated oxidative phosphorylation. The multivitamin blend supports co-factor roles: Vitamin C enhances non-heme iron absorption by reducing ferric to ferrous iron; B vitamins support red blood cell maturation, energy metabolism, and neurological function; and other vitamins support immune function and overall metabolic health.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

·        Adults: 10 ml (2 teaspoons) once or twice daily with or after meals.

·        Children 6 to 12 years: 5 ml once or twice daily.

·        Children 2 to 6 years: 2.5 ml once daily.

·        Shake well before use.

·        Best taken with a vitamin C-rich food or juice to enhance iron absorption. Avoid taking with tea, coffee, or milk as these reduce iron absorption.

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Nausea or stomach upset, particularly if taken on an empty stomach

•      Darkening of stools, which is normal with iron supplementation

Less common:

•      Constipation or diarrhea in sensitive individuals

•      Temporary change in urine color due to B vitamins

•      Tetracyclines and quinolone antibiotics have reduced absorption when taken with iron; separate by 2 hours

•      Antacids reduce iron absorption; separate doses

•      Levodopa absorption may be impaired by concurrent iron
