INDICATION

FDL Sterilyte-M 500ML is a sterile maintenance electrolyte solution for intravenous use. It is indicated for daily fluid and electrolyte maintenance in patients who cannot take oral fluids, for dilution of compatible parenteral medications, and for restoration of mild fluid deficits in clinical settings where a balanced maintenance IV fluid is required.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Sterilyte-M is formulated as a hypotonic or isotonic electrolyte solution providing physiological concentrations of sodium, potassium, and chloride for maintenance needs. Unlike resuscitation fluids, maintenance solutions supply daily water and electrolyte requirements to replace insensible losses from respiration, perspiration, and urine output. The solution avoids sodium overload while maintaining cellular hydration and electrolyte equilibrium.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

·        Administered intravenously under physician supervision.

·        Maintenance doses are typically calculated based on body weight: approximately 30 to 40 ml/kg/day for adults.

·        Rate and volume are adjusted for the patient's clinical condition, renal function, and electrolyte balance.

·        Monitor serum electrolytes, fluid intake and output, and body weight throughout administration.

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Mild injection site reactions or phlebitis
