INDICATION

Eyepat 0.2% Eye Drop is indicated for the treatment of ocular itching and signs of allergic conjunctivitis, including itching, redness, and tearing associated with seasonal and perennial allergic eye disease in adults and children aged 2 years and above.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Olopatadine is a selective H1-receptor antagonist and mast cell stabilizer. It prevents mast cell degranulation by inhibiting the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins, thromboxanes, and leukotrienes from sensitized mast cells in the conjunctiva. By blocking H1 receptors on ocular tissues, it also directly inhibits histamine-mediated symptoms including itching, redness, and chemosis. The dual mechanism of action provides both immediate relief and longer-term prevention of allergic eye symptoms.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

·        Instill 1 drop into each affected eye once daily in the evening, or as directed by a physician.

·        Tilt the head back, pull the lower eyelid down gently, and instill the drop into the lower conjunctival sac.

·        Close the eye for 1 to 2 minutes after instillation.

·        Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface.

·        Remove contact lenses before instillation and wait at least 10 minutes before reinserting.

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Mild transient burning or stinging on instillation

•      Blurred vision immediately after application

Less common:

•      Headache or eye dryness

•      Mild eyelid swelling in sensitive individuals

•      Taste disturbance if drainage occurs through the nasolacrimal duct

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

•      Patients with known hypersensitivity to olopatadine hydrochloride or any component

•      Soft contact lens wear during active treatment due to benzalkonium chloride preservative

•      Use with caution in children below 2 years

DRUG INTERACTIONS

•      No clinically significant systemic drug interactions reported due to minimal systemic absorption

•      Wait at least 5 minutes between use of different ophthalmic preparations

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
