INDICATION

Eyemox-D Eye Drop is indicated for the treatment of bacterial eye infections caused by susceptible organisms combined with ocular inflammation, including post-operative bacterial prophylaxis and inflammation management after cataract or other ocular surgeries. It is also used in steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions with concurrent bacterial infection.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Moxifloxacin is a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, disrupting DNA replication and causing bacterial cell death. It provides broad-spectrum coverage against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens. Dexamethasone is a potent synthetic corticosteroid that suppresses inflammatory mediators including prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting phospholipase A2 through lipocortin induction. The combination provides simultaneous antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ocular therapy.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

·        Instill 1 to 2 drops into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye every 4 to 6 hours.

·        In the first 24 to 48 hours, frequency may be increased to every 2 hours. Taper the dosage as improvement is seen.

·        Do not discontinue prematurely.

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Mild stinging or burning on instillation

•      Transient blurring of vision after application

Less common:

•      Elevated intraocular pressure with prolonged steroid use

DRUG INTERACTIONS

•      Concurrent anti-glaucoma therapy may require dose adjustment if intraocular pressure rises

•      Systemic corticosteroids may have additive immunosuppressive effects if significant topical absorption occurs
