INDICATION

Eyefem Ointment is indicated for the treatment of steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the anterior ocular segment including allergic conjunctivitis, vernal keratoconjunctivitis, post-operative ocular inflammation, and other inflammatory disorders of the eyelid and conjunctiva.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Fluorometholone ointment delivers the same anti-inflammatory corticosteroid action as the drop formulation but with extended contact time due to its ointment base. The ointment coats the ocular surface and prolongs drug contact, making it particularly effective for nighttime use or in patients requiring sustained drug release. It suppresses inflammatory mediators including prostaglandins and histamine, reducing edema, irritation, and tissue proliferation.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

·        Apply a small ribbon of ointment (approximately 1 cm) into the lower conjunctival sac one to three times daily.

·        If used with eye drops, apply the ointment last, or use at bedtime.

·        Tilt the head back, pull the lower lid down gently, and squeeze a thin strip of ointment into the pocket.

·        Close the eye gently.

·        Wash hands before use.

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Temporary blurring of vision after application

•      Mild eye irritation or stinging

Less common:

•      Intraocular pressure elevation with prolonged use

•      Glaucoma or optic nerve damage with very long-term use

•      Delayed corneal or wound healing

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

•      Active viral, fungal, or mycobacterial eye infections

•      Herpes simplex keratitis

•      Acute purulent bacterial conjunctivitis

•      Known hypersensitivity to fluorometholone

DRUG INTERACTIONS

•      Concurrent use with aminoglycoside eye drops should be separated by an appropriate interval

•      Intraocular pressure must be monitored if anti-glaucoma therapy is concurrent

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

Store in a cool and dry place below 25 degrees Celsius. Do not freeze. Replace cap tightly after each use. Discard 28 days after first opening. Keep out of reach of children.
