INDICATION

Dowfen Gel 50GM is indicated for the relief of pain, inflammation, and stiffness in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, soft tissue injuries, sports injuries, strains, sprains, back pain, and tendonitis.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Ketoprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes. This reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are key mediators of pain and inflammation. Applied topically, ketoprofen penetrates the skin to act locally at the site of inflammation with minimal systemic absorption.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Apply a thin layer of Dowfen Gel to the affected area 2 to 4 times daily. Gently massage into the skin until absorbed. For adults above 18 years. Do not apply to broken skin, eyes, or mucous membranes. Do not cover with airtight bandages after application. Wash hands after use unless treating the hands. Use for no longer than 14 days without medical advice.

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Mild skin irritation at application site

•      Redness or itching at the treated area

•      Dry skin or mild burning sensation

Less common:

•      Skin rash or allergic contact dermatitis

•      Photosensitivity reactions on sun-exposed skin

•      Blistering or peeling of skin

•      Patients with a history of aspirin-sensitive asthma

•      Application on broken, infected, or diseased skin

DRUG INTERACTIONS

•      Other topical NSAIDs may increase local irritation if combined

•      Photosensitizing agents may increase risk of phototoxic reactions

•      Anticoagulants such as warfarin may have increased bleeding risk with extensive topical use
