INDICATION

Dimed-S Ointment is indicated for the treatment of chronic plaque psoriasis, hyperkeratotic eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and other scaly, thickened, or keratotic skin conditions where both a keratolytic and a corticosteroid are required.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Betamethasone dipropionate is a potent synthetic fluorinated corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by inhibiting phospholipase A2 through lipocortin induction, suppressing prostaglandin and leukotriene synthesis. This reduces erythema, itching, and skin proliferation. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic agent that softens and facilitates the removal of the thickened stratum corneum by lowering the pH and disrupting the desmosomal connections between corneocytes. The combination enhances penetration of the corticosteroid through hyperkeratotic skin while simultaneously addressing scaling and inflammation.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

·        Apply a thin layer to the affected areas once or twice daily.

·        Rub gently into the skin.

·        Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration.

·        Avoid applying under tight occlusive dressings unless directed.

·        Do not apply to the face, armpits, or groin unless prescribed.

·        Limit treatment to 4 weeks unless supervised by a physician.

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Burning, itching, or stinging at the application site

•      Skin dryness at the site of application

Less common:

•      Skin thinning, striae, or telangiectasia with prolonged use

•      Systemic corticosteroid effects with extensive or prolonged application

•      Salicylate toxicity (salicylism) with application over large areas
