INDICATION

Dermosporin Cream 20G is indicated for the topical treatment of superficial fungal infections of the skin caused by dermatophytes and yeasts, including tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea corporis (ringworm), tinea versicolor, and cutaneous candidiasis.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Clotrimazole is an imidazole antifungal agent that acts by inhibiting the enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase, a key enzyme in the fungal ergosterol biosynthesis pathway. This leads to depletion of ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane, causing increased membrane permeability, leakage of cellular contents, and ultimately fungal cell death. Clotrimazole is effective against a broad range of pathogenic fungi including Candida species, Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Epidermophyton.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

·        Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected skin area and surrounding region two to three times daily.

·        Rub in gently.

·        Continue treatment for at least 2 to 4 weeks and for 2 weeks after all visible signs of infection have cleared.

·        For tinea pedis, treat for 4 weeks. Wash hands before and after application. Avoid contact with eyes.

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Mild skin irritation, burning, or stinging at the application site

•      Mild redness or itching

Less common:

•      Allergic contact dermatitis in hypersensitive individuals

•      Skin dryness or peeling with prolonged use

 

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

•      Known hypersensitivity to clotrimazole or any imidazole antifungal agent

•      Deep fungal or systemic infections requiring systemic therapy

•      Application on the eyes or mucous membranes
