INDICATION

Dan-D 50000 IU Cap is used for the correction of moderate to severe vitamin D deficiency, osteomalacia, rickets, hypoparathyroidism, and as an adjunct in the management of osteoporosis. A weekly or bi-weekly 50,000 IU dose is a widely used and well-tolerated regimen for vitamin D repletion in adults.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Cholecalciferol is converted to active calcitriol via hepatic and renal hydroxylation steps. At 50,000 IU per dose (given weekly or bi-weekly), this formulation effectively raises serum 25-OH vitamin D levels from deficient to sufficient range within 8 to 12 weeks in most patients. It improves calcium absorption from the gut, supports bone mineralization, and reduces secondary hyperparathyroidism.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Vitamin D deficiency repletion: 1 capsule (50,000 IU) once weekly for 8 to 12 weeks

SIDE EFFECTS
