INDICATION

Colic Drops by Paul Brookes is a simethicone-based anti-flatulence preparation indicated for the relief of infant colic, excessive gas, flatulence, and abdominal bloating in infants and young children. It is used for the symptomatic management of excessive crying, abdominal discomfort, and restlessness caused by trapped intestinal gas in breastfed and formula-fed infants.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Simethicone reduces the surface tension of intestinal gas bubbles, allowing small bubbles to coalesce into larger ones that are more easily expelled. It acts entirely locally within the gastrointestinal tract and is not absorbed systemically, making it physiologically inert and highly safe for infant use.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Infants under 2 years: 0.3 to 0.6ml before or after each feed, up to 4 times daily

•      Children 2 to 12 years: 0.6ml four times daily after meals

•      Administer directly into the baby's mouth or mix with a small amount of milk, formula, or water

•      Shake well before each use; always follow the dosage recommended by your pediatrician

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Extremely well tolerated with no systemic side effects

•      Mild loose stools in some infants during initial use

•      No pharmacologically significant side effects due to non-absorption

•      Bloating during very first days of use in very sensitive infants

Less common:

•      Allergic reaction to excipients (very rare)

•      Mild nausea in older children at very high doses

•      No clinically significant adverse effects documented at recommended doses

•      Rash in very rare hypersensitive individuals

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

•      Known hypersensitivity to simethicone or any excipient

•      Persistent or severe colic symptoms not responding to simethicone (medical evaluation required)

•      Not for infants below 4 weeks without paediatric guidance

•      Undiagnosed abdominal pain requires medical assessment before using simethicone

DRUG INTERACTIONS
