INDICATION

Clin-Max Lotion 30ml is a topical antibiotic lotion containing clindamycin phosphate 1% indicated for the treatment of acne vulgaris in adults and adolescents. It reduces the bacterial population of Cutibacterium acnes on the skin surface and within follicles, decreasing inflammatory acne lesions including papules, pustules, and nodules. The lotion formulation is suitable for oily and combination skin types.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Clindamycin phosphate is a prodrug that is hydrolysed by skin esterases to the active free acid clindamycin. Active clindamycin inhibits C. acnes protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, reducing bacterial colonization of follicles and the production of lipases and pro-inflammatory mediators that drive acne inflammation. As a single-agent antibiotic, Clin-Max is effective but should be used for a defined course to minimize the risk of clindamycin resistance development, which is higher with single-agent antibiotic therapy than with combination preparations.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Apply a thin layer to the affected area twice daily (morning and evening) on clean, dry skin

•      Use a gentle applicator or fingertips; avoid getting in eyes, nose, or mouth

•      Duration of therapy should not exceed 12 weeks without reassessment by a dermatologist

•      Always follow your dermatologist's instructions; consider combining with topical retinoid or benzoyl peroxide as directed

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Skin dryness at the application site

•      Mild burning or stinging on application

•      Oiliness or skin shininess (lotion vehicle)

•      Mild erythema

Less common:

•      Allergic contact dermatitis

•      Pseudomembranous colitis (very rare with topical clindamycin)

•      Folliculitis

•      Gram-negative folliculitis with prolonged use due to clindamycin resistance

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Erythromycin topical combined with clindamycin has antagonistic antibacterial activity in vitro; avoid combination. Neuromuscular blocking agents: topical clindamycin absorption is minimal, but theoretically enhance neuromuscular blockade; clinically not significant at standard topical doses.
