CHEWCON-S SYRUP 120ML ONLINE AT BEST PRICE IN PAKISTAN
GENERIC: Calcium Carbonate + Vitamin D3 Syrup (Calcium Supplement)
MANUFACTURER: Nexcon Pharma
QUANTITY:
120ml syrup
INDICATION
Chewcon-S Syrup 120ml is a calcium and vitamin D3 supplement indicated for the prevention and treatment of calcium deficiency states in adults and children. It is used for osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, hypocalcemia, and as a dietary adjunct in pregnant and breastfeeding women, growing children, post-menopausal women, and elderly patients with increased calcium requirements or reduced dietary calcium intake. The syrup formulation provides a palatable, easily swallowed alternative to tablets for patients who prefer liquid preparations.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Calcium carbonate provides ionized calcium absorbed in the proximal small intestine in an acid-dependent process. Calcium is the principal mineral of bone, comprising approximately 99% of body calcium stores as hydroxyapatite in the skeletal matrix. Supplemental calcium supports bone mineralization, neuromuscular function, cardiac contractility, and enzyme activation. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is metabolized to calcitriol, which acts on vitamin D receptors in the intestinal epithelium to enhance calcium and phosphorus absorption, reducing secondary hyperparathyroidism and supporting bone mineralization. Together, calcium and vitamin D3 provide synergistic bone and musculoskeletal support.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
• Adults: 10ml two to three times daily with or after meals
• Pregnant and breastfeeding women: 10ml twice daily or as directed by the obstetrician
• Children 6 to 12 years: 5ml once or twice daily as directed by a pediatrician
• Shake well before use; always follow the dosage recommended by your doctor based on clinical need and dietary calcium intake
SIDE EFFECTS
Common:
• Constipation (most common with calcium carbonate; increase fluid and dietary fibre intake)
• Nausea and bloating
• Flatulence
• Chalky taste
Less common:
• Hypercalcemia with excessive prolonged use: thirst, polyuria, weakness, and confusion
• Milk-alkali syndrome with very high doses combined with absorbable alkali
• Kidney stones with excessive calcium intake in susceptible individuals
• Hypercalciuria
NOT RECOMMENDED IN
• Hypercalcemia or hypercalciuria
• Calcium nephrolithiasis (kidney stones)
• Severe renal impairment
• Known hypersensitivity to any ingredient; avoid combination with other calcium supplements without medical supervision
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Calcium reduces absorption of tetracycline and fluoroquinolone antibiotics; take at least 2 hours apart. Iron absorption is reduced when taken together; administer separately. Bisphosphonates such as alendronate have significantly reduced absorption with calcium; take bisphosphonates on an empty stomach at least 2 hours before calcium. Thiazide diuretics combined with calcium increase hypercalcemia risk; monitor serum calcium. Digoxin toxicity risk is increased by hypercalcemia.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Shake well before use. Keep tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.
