INDICATION

Ceregin 1.5mg Tab is an ergot-derived cerebral vasodilator and metabolic enhancer used in the symptomatic management of cognitive decline associated with ageing, mild dementia, and cerebrovascular insufficiency. It is used to improve memory, attention, and mental alertness in elderly patients.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Co-Dergocrine Mesilates (ergoloid mesylates) acts through multiple mechanisms. It increases cerebral blood flow, enhances neuronal metabolism by activating adenylyl cyclase and reducing cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase activity, and possesses weak adrenolytic and dopaminergic properties. These combined effects improve cerebral oxygenation, glucose utilization, and neurotransmitter activity in ageing brain tissue.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      1.5mg to 3mg daily in divided doses

•      Tablets may be taken with or without food

•      Therapeutic effects may take several weeks to become apparent

•      Elderly patients should start at the lower dose

•      Use only under medical supervision

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Nausea, gastric irritation

•      Bradycardia (slow heart rate)

•      Nasal congestion

•      Headache

Less common:

•      Postural hypotension (low blood pressure on standing)

•      Skin flushing or rash

•      Blurred vision

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

•      Known hypersensitivity to ergot derivatives

•      Severe bradycardia

•      Severe hypotension

•      Concurrent use with other ergot alkaloids or triptans

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Co-Dergocrine should not be combined with other vasoconstrictors or ergot derivatives. It may potentiate the hypotensive effects of antihypertensive medications. Dopamine agonists may have additive effects when combined with co-dergocrine.
