INDICATION

Capilum Hair Growth Shampoo is a medicated shampoo used for the treatment of dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp, and scalp conditions associated with Malassezia (Pityrosporum) fungal overgrowth. It also contains herbal extracts that help reduce hair fall, nourish the scalp, and support healthy hair growth.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Ketoconazole 2% inhibits fungal cytochrome P450-dependent 14-alpha lanosterol demethylase, blocking ergosterol biosynthesis in Malassezia species on the scalp. This disrupts the fungal membrane and controls fungal overgrowth, which is a primary cause of dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. The herbal components may additionally soothe scalp inflammation, strengthen hair follicles, reduce oxidative stress at the root, and promote the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis: apply shampoo to wet scalp, lather well, leave for 3 to 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly

•      Use twice weekly for at least 4 weeks initially, then once weekly for maintenance

•      For hair growth support: use 2 to 3 times weekly as directed

•      Avoid contact with eyes; rinse with water if contact occurs

•      For external use on the scalp only

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Mild scalp irritation or burning sensation initially

•      Temporary hair texture change

•      Dryness or greasiness of hair

Less common:

•      Contact dermatitis or allergic scalp reaction

•      Hair loss initially (temporary, settles with continued use)
