CALMCOL DROP 20ML
CALMCOL DROP 20ML ONLINE AT BEST PRICE IN PAKISTAN
GENERIC: Ivy Leaf Extract (Hedera helix)
MANUFACTURER: SOIS Pharma
QUANTITY:
20ml oral drops
INDICATION
Calmcol Drop 20ml is an herbal expectorant preparation based on Ivy Leaf Extract indicated for the symptomatic relief of acute and chronic inflammatory bronchial conditions including productive cough, bronchitis, and catarrh of the upper respiratory tract in infants and young children. It helps loosen and thin mucus secretions, making cough more productive and facilitating mucociliary clearance of the airways. The drop formulation allows precise dose adjustment for pediatric use.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Ivy Leaf Extract (Hedera helix) contains saponins, primarily alpha-hederin and hederacoside C, which are the principal active constituents. These saponins act on beta-2 adrenergic receptors in bronchial smooth muscle, producing bronchodilation and relaxation of bronchospasm. Alpha-hederin also activates surfactant secretion from type II pneumocytes, reducing surface tension in the alveoli and small airways and improving mucociliary clearance. Additionally, ivy leaf saponins exhibit mucolytic properties by reducing the viscosity of mucus secretions, facilitating expectoration. These combined mechanisms make it effective in conditions with excessive or viscous mucus and associated bronchospasm.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
• Infants 0 to 1 year: 2.5ml (half a teaspoon equivalent) twice daily
• Children 1 to 5 years: 2.5ml three times daily
• Children 5 to 12 years: 5ml three times daily
• Shake well before each use; may be given directly or mixed with a small amount of liquid; always follow the dosage recommended by your pediatrician
SIDE EFFECTS
Common:
• Mild nausea or stomach upset if taken on an empty stomach
• Mild gastrointestinal discomfort
• Allergic skin reaction in individuals sensitive to ivy or the Araliaceous plant family
• Mild diarrhoea with higher doses
Less common:
• Allergic reaction including skin rash and urticaria in sensitive individuals
• Vomiting at high doses (saponin-related)
• Bronchoconstriction paradox in rare cases of ivy allergy
• Contact dermatitis from direct skin contact with raw ivy plant (not typically from the standardized extract at oral doses)
NOT RECOMMENDED IN
• Known hypersensitivity to ivy (Hedera helix) or plants of the Araliaceous family
• Not recommended for infants below 1 year without pediatric medical supervision
• Patients with known fructose intolerance if the formulation contains fructose-based excipients
• Persistent cough lasting more than 7 days or associated with high fever should be medically evaluated
DRUG INTERACTIONS
No clinically significant pharmacokinetic drug interactions have been documented for standardized ivy leaf extract preparations at recommended oral doses. The mild beta-2 adrenergic activity of ivy leaf saponins may theoretically have an additive bronchodilatory effect when combined with inhaled beta-2 agonists such as salbutamol, which is generally not a clinical concern at standard doses. No significant interactions with antibiotics, antipyretics, or antihistamines commonly used alongside cough preparations have been reported.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Shake well before each use. Keep tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.
