INDICATION

Betaderm-N Oint 15gm is a combination topical corticosteroid and aminoglycoside antibiotic ointment indicated for corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses complicated by bacterial infection or at risk of secondary bacterial infection. It is used for infected eczema and atopic dermatitis, infected contact dermatitis, secondarily infected psoriasis, and infected seborrheic dermatitis. The ointment base provides superior penetration in dry, lichenified, or hyperkeratotic skin lesions compared to cream formulations.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Betamethasone valerate suppresses inflammatory pathways by binding to glucocorticoid receptors, reducing pro-inflammatory mediator production and controlling erythema, oedema, and pruritus in inflammatory skin conditions. Neomycin sulphate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, producing bactericidal activity against gram-positive organisms (Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes) and gram-negative organisms commonly found in secondarily infected skin conditions. The ointment base enhances penetration and hydration of the skin, improving drug delivery to inflamed and infected skin.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Apply a thin layer to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily

•      Gently rub into the skin; for hairy areas, part the hair to ensure good contact with the skin

•      Avoid the face, groin, and intertriginous areas unless specifically prescribed for these locations

•      Do not use for more than 4 weeks without reassessment; always follow your dermatologist's instructions

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Burning, stinging, and skin irritation on application

•      Skin dryness at the application site

•      Folliculitis with prolonged use

•      Mild erythema

Less common:
