INDICATION

Bensolene Gel 15g is a topical fixed-combination retinoid and antibacterial preparation indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe acne vulgaris in patients 9 years of age and older. It is used when single-agent topical acne therapy with either a retinoid or benzoyl peroxide alone has been insufficient. The combination targets both the comedonal and inflammatory components of acne vulgaris, providing superior efficacy compared to either agent used alone.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Adapalene is a third-generation synthetic retinoid that selectively binds to retinoic acid receptors (RAR-beta and RAR-gamma) in the nucleus of keratinocytes. It normalizes abnormal keratinocyte differentiation within the pilosebaceous follicle, preventing microcomedone formation and promoting comedone resolution. Unlike tretinoin, adapalene is more photostable and less irritating. Benzoyl peroxide is a bactericidal agent that releases reactive oxygen species (free radicals) within the follicle, causing oxidative damage to Cutibacterium acnes proteins and cell membranes. Because benzoyl peroxide is bactericidal rather than bacteriostatic, it significantly reduces the risk of antibiotic resistance. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
