INDICATION

Baripeg-P Eye Drop is a viscous ophthalmic lubricant based on polygelline, indicated for the relief of dry eye symptoms including dryness, irritation, burning, and grittiness associated with dry eye disease, computer vision syndrome, contact lens wear, and environmental exposure. The higher viscosity of the polygelline base provides prolonged ocular surface lubrication compared to standard aqueous eye drops, reducing the frequency of instillation needed for symptom relief.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Polygelline is a modified fluid gelatin derivative that exhibits mucoadhesive and viscoelastic properties when applied to the ocular surface. It adsorbs to the corneal and conjunctival epithelial cells, forming a stable, viscous lubricating film that supplements and stabilises the deficient tear film. The polygelline molecule retains water molecules through hydrogen bonding, maintaining ocular surface hydration, reducing evaporation from the tear film, and providing prolonged lubrication during blinking. Its pseudoplastic (shear-thinning) rheological behavior reduces viscosity during the shear forces of blinking, minimizing blurring of vision while maintaining sustained lubrication between blinks.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

•      Instil 1 to 2 drops into the affected eye(s) 3 to 4 times daily or as needed

•      May be used more frequently during periods of prolonged screen use or in dry environments

•      Wash hands before use; tilt the head back, pull down the lower eyelid, and Instil the drop

•      Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface; single-use vials should be discarded immediately after use

SIDE EFFECTS

Common:

•      Transient mild blurring of vision immediately after instillation (clears within seconds)

•      Mild stinging or burning on application in sensitive individuals

•      Sensation of foreign body briefly after use

•      Eye discharge in sensitive individuals

Less common:

•      Allergic conjunctivitis in individuals sensitive to gelatin or any excipient

•      Prolonged vision blurring if used in excessive amounts

•      Eyelid stickiness with high-viscosity preparations

•      Eye redness in hypersensitive patients

•      Known hypersensitivity to polygelline, gelatin, or any excipient

•      Known gelatin allergy

•      Do not use with contact lenses in place unless specifically formulated for contact lens use

DRUG INTERACTIONS
