ALCUFLEX 550MG TABLET ONLINE AT BEST PRICE IN PAKISTAN
GENERIC: Naproxen Sodium 550mg
MANUFACTURER: ICI Pharma
QUANTITY:
Pack of 30 tablets
INDICATION
Alcuflex 550mg Tab is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) prescribed for the relief of pain, stiffness, and inflammation. It is commonly used to manage osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gout, menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhoea), dental pain, post-surgical pain, and musculoskeletal injuries. It provides both analgesic and anti-inflammatory benefits, making it suitable for both chronic and acute pain conditions.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Naproxen sodium inhibits the cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which are responsible for converting arachidonic acid into prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemical mediators that sensitise pain receptors, cause inflammation, and raise body temperature. By blocking prostaglandin synthesis, naproxen reduces pain, swelling, and fever at the site of tissue injury or disease. The sodium salt form provides faster absorption compared to naproxen base, resulting in a quicker onset of analgesic effect.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
• Acute pain and dysmenorrhoea: 550mg initially, followed by 275mg every 6 to 8 hours
• Inflammatory conditions: 550mg twice daily
• Maximum daily dose: 1,375mg
• Take with food or a full glass of water to minimise gastric irritation
• Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary
SIDE EFFECTS
Common:
• Nausea, indigestion, abdominal pain
• Headache, dizziness
• Constipation or diarrhoea
• Skin rash or mild itching
Less common:
• Gastric ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding with prolonged use
• Fluid retention and elevated blood pressure
• Elevated liver enzymes
• Severe allergic reactions including bronchospasm in aspirin-sensitive patients
NOT RECOMMENDED IN
• Active or history of peptic ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding
• Severe renal or hepatic impairment
• Third trimester of pregnancy
• Known hypersensitivity to naproxen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs
• Patients with uncontrolled hypertension or established heart disease
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Naproxen sodium can reduce the antihypertensive effects of ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), and beta blockers. Combined use with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids increases the risk of gastrointestinal adverse effects. Concurrent use with anticoagulants such as warfarin raises the risk of bleeding, requiring careful monitoring. Naproxen can increase plasma levels of methotrexate and lithium to potentially toxic levels. Diuretics and antihypertensives may be less effective when taken alongside naproxen.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Store Alcuflex 550mg tablets in a cool, dry place below 25°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
